The ride down to San Diego was pretty straightforward. I mean, it was just a matter of hopping on I5 and bombing down to LA; the standard trip to SoCal which we’ve both done a bazillion times, and Katie had just done it a few days prior when she went to Disneyland for a few days with her besties. Anyhoo, we made our way down to LA in good time, but we still managed to hit some traffic, which did not make me very happy. After a million hours of driving (okay, like 7) we were about an hour from San Diego and starting to lag. It was definitely time for a coffee break, so we decided to make a pit stop in Oceanside for a quick cup of Joe. Brilliant idea, except….every coffee-shop-style shop appeared to be closed. Eventually we found one that was open, and, excited for some caffeine and to stretch our legs, we eagerly made our way to the counter, only to hear that they were not selling coffee because apparently the water company broke a water pipe, contaminating the water supply. Since we decided against drinking poop coffee, we used the potties, which were still working, and headed directly to Emily’s friend Kate’s house. Emily met Kate in college and they (and Kim!!) became extremely good friends when they lived together for 10 weeks in Washington DC for the UCDC program. Kate took Emily and Katie to the La Jolla Cove for a super delicious dinner at the Crab Catcher. We had stunning views, yummy food and great convos.
